Dr. Anthony Catanese is a diplomat of the American Board of Urology, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He practices urology and genitourinary oncology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Somerset in Somerville, New Jersey. He has served as chairman of the surgery department as well as chief of urology.
Dr. Catanese started practicing judo under Sensei Hank Kraft at Queens Judo Center in Forest Hills, New York. He competed as a junior, high school, college, senior, and masters competitor. He has played locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. He has owned and operated his own judo school. In 2017, he won a gold medal at the National Masters Tournament M7, 90 kilos.
Dr. Catanese has been a team physician to five US world teams and has served as a US Nationals medical director. He trains at Cranford Judo and Karate under Sensei Nick Yonezuka. Besides serving as a US team physician, he volunteers his time locally at tournaments in the New York area. He is chairman of the local yudanshakai promotion board and is on the USJF National Promotion Committee.
